Benson Vineyards 2004 Sangiovese. $27
Benson Vineyards is one of many small, good wineries in Chelan, Washington. They produce many different wines, including a wonderful Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese.
This wine is a classic Sangiovese — good weight, great flavors a perfect food wine.
Nose: Luscious aromas of black berries and spice.
Taste: Cherries, plums, spice in a medium bodied wine. “A spring bouquet.” Like any good wine, the flavors evolve as it’s opened longer. It’s a lovely wine to enjoy on its own.
Food: We served this with a salmon pizza and it was perfect. It brought out the cherry flavors a bit and there were just enough tannins to cut the richness of the pizza. Serve this with any Italian food, roast beef or pork or grilled meat.
This is a real treat.
